Our Program
We desire each child in our program to have a successful, preschool experience. Children come into our program with a wide variety of personalities, talents, and abilities. Each child is helped to realize that he/she is special and loved. Every effort is made to help each child feel secure and confident. We teach mainly through experiences that children can touch, see, hear, and explore. Both classes work on language skills, counting, number recognition, social and self-help skills, as well as large and small motor development. Through our lessons and carefully selected classroom toys, the children become aware of the world God created around them and their part in it.
The Curriculum
The emphasis in our three year-old program is on the development of social skills such as learning to work with other children in a group, taking turns and sharing the teacher’s attention. We also work on independence and self-help skills. Bible stories are an important part of the day. Pre-reading and pre-math skills are also a part of the program.
The emphasis in our four year-old program continues to be social and self-help skills, with the addition of kindergarten readiness. Increasing emphasis is placed on such areas as writing names, recognizing letters and their sounds, numbers, and early math skills. Bible stories, learning about God, and prayer continue to be important components of the program as well.
Children in both classes have daily jobs which serve to develop both competence and self-confidence. Field trips throughout the year complement what we are doing in class.
Our bright and cheerful classroom is decorated to appeal to lively youngsters and provides them with a welcome and safe environment. The room is filled with a variety of toys, games, puzzles, books and other equipment that will stimulate a child’s imagination and thinking skills, and promote small and large muscle development. There is an outdoor, fenced playground to play in when the weather allows, and an indoor play area when the weather is disagreeable. Our facility is designed with a paramount concern for a child’s safety, security, self-esteem, and sense of fun.
Schedule
A typical day for both classes involves some free- play time and some structured time. We know that “play is children’s work” and by offering quality choices, we enable children to gain knowledge and confidence. Group time involves Bible stories, singing, discussion of weather, holidays, seasons, etc., story time, show and tell, group prayer and a variety of other activities. We also work together on crafts, and we eat together at snack time. When weather permits, there is daily outdoor play. During inclement weather, we utilize a large playroom in the basement.
